Celebrate the New Year at Shiv Mandir's New Year Flag Raising Ceremony!

Shakuntla Datt

Updated: Jan 2

The Board of Directors of Shiv Mandir welcomes you to join us in ringing in the New Year with prayer and thanksgiving at our annual Flag Raising Ceremony! The Flag, or "Dhvaja" in Sanskrit, is an important visual symbol that can be seen flying atop Hindu temples, typically coloured red and depicting a deity and their mount. The raising of the flag represents the triumph of virtue and enlightenment over adversity and ignorance, as well as indicating to passersby that this space is divinely protected!

The flag raising will be held on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at 10:00 am at Shiv Mandir, 5600 Dorset Street, Burnaby, BC. The day will also include Ramayan Katha, keertan, hawan and prasadam, with lunch to be served at noon.

We welcome everyone and hope that the new year will bring peace and prosperity to all!
